Russ Leads on This

Yesterday, while we were having breakfast at this very cute Inn in New Hampshire, Russ gets a text from the Durham’s Red Cross. Russ is a very good blood donor. He donates blood as often as he is allowed. They text him when he is eligible to give again and he almost always goes right in and gives.

So while we are still away he schedules a donation for 8:15 this morning. He planed to give blood before he even picked Shay up from her sitter. He got up this morning while I was still asleep and put on a blood donor shirt he had been given at a previous donation and went over to give blood.

Turns out this morning was the first day of a reconfiguration of the donor center and the director was there to see how it was all going. Russ reported she was delighted that he was there first thing in his shirt and asked to take his picture to send into the national office.

I hope that they use a picture like this one to encourage other people to give blood. It’s not difficult. Does not take long and definitely, not probably, saves lives.

Donating blood is something that does not diminish you, but it certainly can save the life of someone who needs blood at a time when not having enough blood could kill them.

I love that Russ is better at this than I am, but he inspires me to try and be better. So I will follow his lead. I just don’t have a cute shirt like he does.
