About Dana

I am a middle-aged, like right in the middle, woman who is a wife and a mother.  For the past four years I have been an editor at Durham Magazine.  I am a story-teller at heart.  I am committed to the mission of the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, where I will serve as its board chair starting in July of 2012.  I love to cook and eat.  HA!  No wonder I need a weight loss challenge!

Dana- oh my God! The mother tax. Hilarious. I gained lots of weight from grill cheese sandwiches and mac and cheese with my kids for that very reason and grew up with my wonderful Mom who did the same thing. That made me laugh and cry.
I found your blog from something we were doing with someone from Durham Mag. with my 86 y.o. dad and his brother in Forest Hills. Matt told me about your blog and I love it. Feeling it so much. I would contribute but already contributing to NC Food Bank through work with volunteering and lots of food donations. You are doing so great!! This weight stuff sucks especially when you are surrounded by skinny people like I am.
I have a friend at work that I have turned on to your blog who is young and obese but has turned her life around and she showed me a great website. skinnytaste.com. I have fixed some of the recipes and they are better than comparable ones on the WW site.
Good luck to you and I am supporting your cause. Such a good one. Love the words the best.

  3. And which Dana at Camp Idlepines would you be? I’m the gatekeeper of all the websites for Camp Idlepines, reunion coordinator, and daughter of the director. Would you be interested in getting in touch with other women who were on Bow Lake in the ’70’s?

    Hi Dana,
I’ve been talking with the Food Bank of CENC about a nonprofit I’m starting that will benefit local Feeding America food banks and they suggested you might be a good person to talk to due to your efforts. Could you call me when you have a few minutes? I’d love to tell you about us and possibly sit down with you over lunch or coffee.
    Thanks,

I make califlower soup as well, which I love. I do make it with chicken broth since I’m not vegan. I don’t eat a lot of meat though, just sometimes like a condiment. I’m a soup person and love all kinds of soup. I guess my question to you is if I still use chicken stock instead of veggie stock can you still lose weight?

    Thanks for you blog….
