My Super Bowl is Almost Over
Posted: April 30, 2026 Filed under: Uncategorized Leave a commentAs April comes to a close, my Super Bowl month ends with a bang. Thanks to the Greensboro country club for a big turn out tonight for the last new card class for the month.

When Carter got engaged last year I said, you can get married any month you want, except April. April is my busiest month of the year. I see more students in April than all the other months combined. That is thanks to the many places that host me for New card orientation classes. This year 18 classes at 16 locations was my biggest April. I also had new card classes in places I have not taught new card at before, like Charlotte and the Bahamas.
It has been a grueling, but exhilarating month. Teaching a three hour lecture class is a lot of talking. The good thing is by the time I give the first class I know that material by heart because I have played 1,000 hands and have written the 85 power point slides.
Every year I have to come up with new ways to impart knowledge, new stories and examples. This year it was the description of flowers and dragons as Jewelry and winds as scarves. If you came to class you got the reference.
I still have two more new card classes in May, but am almost done with this road show and will be getting back to beginner and beyond beginner classes.
If you missed new card class the ZOOM class was recorded and is available for sale so you can watch it anytime you want. This year’s Charleston Decision Tree is a sight to behold. You only get that if you take class with me, recorded version or live version.
The only thing I don’t love about doing so many lecture classes back to back is I don’t have as much interaction with the students. I like getting a chance to talk to students and help them. New card is a knowledge dump.
Tonight I met two nice young women who were first time students at one of my classes. One said, “I finally realize Mah Jongg is so much more than picking tiles and drinking wine.” Yes, yes it is. So happy to take you to the next level.
