Always Hopeful for Democracy

Because Russ and I both think that this democracy is worth fighting for we wanted to see the collection of David Rubenstein’s Declaration of Independence broadsides. He has lent his collection to Durham and the Nasher Museum so that regular ‘ole Americans like us can see them.

We went to the main library in downtown Durham where the collection is on view right now. They will move to the Nasher later. Going on a Saturday morning meant the exhibit was not busy. A very nice Hispanic security guard gave us each a booklet of the constitution and took our photo infront of one of the declarations.

There were three different copies. All printed in the 1800’s to help spread the news about the declaration.

Our democracy is not a given. It takes work to make sure that we keep the rights enshrined in our constitution. I hope that everyone speaks up for what they believe in and remembers rights for you also means rights for others. Let’s not take our eye off anyone wanting to limit rights that our founding fathers fought for.
