Pray for Rain
Posted: April 17, 2026 Filed under: Uncategorized Leave a commentIf ever there was a year to be too busy to garden it is his one. We are in a serious drought. Down by more than five inches of rain right now. It is not looking good for the near future.
It was cold late into the spring so when I did have a little time to garden it was too cold. Now that it has gotten hot fast I am not only too busy, but the lack of rain is a serious problem. Last weekend I planted just two tomatoes and a bunch of peppers and one basil plant. Just keeping up with that is proving to be difficult and peppers don’t need much water once they get established. They certainly aren’t established yet.
People should not be watering their grass right now. Water is much too valuable a resource to waste on grass. Grass is amazingly resilient and will die and come back.
As I was driving through Eastern North Carolina this week I saw field after field that looked like they had rows for planting, but no plants growing. As if things are not already hard enough for farmers, not to have rain is the worst.
Pray for rain. We need it.
