The Weather Forecast Is the Killer

Last week the weather forecast in Durham went from 20 inches of snow, to 16 inches of snow, to 9 inches of snow and then to 1 inch of ice, to 3/4 of an inch of ice to settling in on 2 inches of sleet. The panic at 20 inches of snow or one inch of ice were huge. Sleet, not so bad. Yeah, we stayed home, but we had power.

So here we go again. 20 inches of snow. That was enough to make Rufus’s cancel his trip to visit his 87 year old father. I was getting out to Cashiers, to teach mah Jongg at High Hampton come hell or high water. We had 45 people coming.

The drive today was a breeze. Not that many people on the road. I was listening to the end of a fabulous book, Theo of Golden. Stopped in Black Mountain and had my favorite lunch at the veranda, their Hungarian mushroom soup and half a turkey sandwich.

Arrived at High Hampton and Russ let me know the forecast had gone down again for Durham, 2 inches now. But the forecast for all of North Carolina had done it’s voodoo magic and a bunch of people canceled their mah Jongg reservations due to the forecast. Not actual snow, just the talk of snow.

No worries. I”m still here having a grand ‘ole time. The Inn is fabulous, the staff are jovial, the food is superb. The classes will be even more fun.

I just want the forecast to be correct.
