Easy Vacation Day

Vacation Day one was a no rest for the wicked kind of day. As we were so exhausted when we pulled in last night we did not bother to do the shopping. So we woke up early this morning and went to Atlantic Baking where we bought good bread for Russ and gluten free for me. Bread is something I definitely miss as so far gluten free has been not so great.

Then we went to Walmart to do our stock up shopping. Normally I am not a Walmart shopper, but since it is the biggest store near us and toilet paper is toilet paper that is where we went. Russ declared it not a horrible experience.

Our first guest of the summer was arriving at noon today. Russ’ great friend Gary from Wisconsin was bringing his daughter to college in Maine and came to spend one day with us. It was a quintessential Maine Day so we enjoyed time on the deck overlooking the water. Gary and Russ talked a lot of business and after lunch I took the first of my vacation naps. It was lovely.

We went to Claws for dinner. They have gluten free rolls so I had my first lobster roll of the summer and the gluten free part was quickly discarded and I had my first lobster sans roll of the summer.

After dinner we drove Gary around Owls Head, showing him our general store, post office and lobster pound. It was too late to see the light house as the park closed at sunset.

It was a Great Maine Day. Ending with wild Maine blueberry ice cream. As I write now I hear the ocean lapping on the rocks and feel the cool breeze though the open windows of our room.

Sun will be up bright and early so it’s off to sleep now, in spite of my much enjoyed nap.

Dang! Now that’s what I call a lobster roll. I see the meat before the roll! Enjoy a vacation.
