The Love Hate of North Carolina Spring

In any other time of year that would call for sitting outside to enjoy dinner. One would think you could luxuriate in the warm soft air and celebrate the change of seasons.

But no, we are full into the yellowing season. Pollen thickly coats every outdoor surface. If you sit down outside your backside had a big yellow impression of the seat you were on. That yellow makes everything look twice as big as it actually is.
Sadly, we have to hibernate inside with the air conditioning on to filter out the pollen. No windows can possible be thrown open unless we wanted to permanently pollute our indoor air quality.
All this and we are not even at the height of the pollening. You know you have reached the peak when car sized clouds of yellow spores are rolling down the street like the slimy blobs in ghost busters.
I would love to sit outside, but I don’t own a hazmat suit with a portable air filtration machine. Maybe that’s my next invention. It would be yellow so that you would never see the stain of the real pollen I would be sitting in.
It might rain tonight, which we desperately need to knock down some of the pollen. It just means we turn the coating on every outdoor surface into a river of pollen. Just a tiny bit better in the water than in the air. At least my eyes will be happier.
