The Summer Day of March

I think we broke a high temp record today in Durham. It was in the 80’s. I wore white summer pants to teach. One of my students said, “No white before Memorial Day.” I said that rule does not count when the temperature is over 80.

It’s not going to stay that warm, but it was the taste of summer than makes me want to run out and buy plants and scatter seeds in my garden. I should not succumb to the temptress of the first summer day in March, but I think the arugula can handle it. So I will be throwing down some seeds.

What I’m looking for!

I am in the market for some free food and that is practically what arugula is. I buy $3 worth of seed and will get $100 worth of arugula. It’s not time for zinnia seeds yet, but I’m not waiting too long as this year I would like for them to come up and bloom before I leave for Maine in August.

For the record, I wear white pants all year round, regardless of the temp. White shoes too!
