Slower Than Last Year

Maybe I am getting older, or maybe my slower decorating is because I have more time to do it. I don’t usually decorate for Christmas until the day after Thanksgiving. But this year we are only getting Carter and Claire for Thanksgiving. So I am mashing the two holidays into one big Thanksmas.

It is not Christmas at our house without it fully being decorated. When I looked at the calendar and backed in the amount of time I need to decorate and wrap presents I had to start this weekend.

The getting “everything” out seemed to go well. I got a few rooms started yesterday and worked exclusively on the tree today. The tree went slowly because I kept taking breaks because my back hurt. Eventually I got it done, save one big issue.

I could not find either of my tree skirts. Not sure where they are, but I have not opened every container or box. I thought it was hanging up in one of the downstairs closets, but I could not find it. Russ looked in the linen closet and found two Christmas table cloths I had forgotten about. So that was a bonus.

The tree is done, sans skirt and getting the skirt on the decorated tree is going to be tricky, if I can find it. If I don’t I might just stuff white quilting batting around it so it looks like snow. Not that you can even see the stand as there are so many ornaments. It is a low priority part of decorating right now.

I have a busy day tomorrow, teaching and celebrating a friend’s birthday. I hope to get in a few more hours of decorating so I can at least vacuum the house and start to get the errant glitter up.

At least I know I will be decorated in time for Carter and Claire to come. It won’t feel exactly thanksgivingy, but that is more about the flavors than the sights and we certainly will be having plenty of sage and pecans to make it feel like Thanksgiving.

We also have to celebrate Carter’s birthday before they go home to Boston. So many celebrations. I can hardly wait.
