Seasons of a Life Long Friend

I first met Suzanne when we were freshman at Dickinson college. We both pledged Pi Phi and it was the start of a great life long friendship. When we were in college we would tell each other about a cute store we found or a good deal on a sweater. If she was coming into lunch when I was on the way out I might tell her to avoid the salad bar as I saw someone pick up something from it with their hands.

As we got a little older and were young professionals, her in NYC and me in Washington, DC, she might tell me about a good new lip stick or a deal on a hair brush. I might tell her about a new nail treatment.

We got a little older and I would tell her about a cute hotel that was good for vacation and she might tell me about a fabulous play. We got married and I told her a good jeweler and she told me a great antique store.

We had kids and she told me good Santa gifts and I told her fun summer activities for kids.

All the time she told me good books to read. I told her good shows to watch and we always shared great games to play.

But now, after 46 years of friendship we have finally gotten to the reason you have a life long friend. They know exactly what you need and when you need it. Suzanne showed me “the best gift her sister Gussy ever gave her,” a memory foam seat for your car.

She let me sit in hers this weekend and she was right. So today mine arrived. I guess you can say we have moved into the orthopedic season of our friendship.
