Dog are Not Good Decorators

There are certain things dogs are good at. Doing the dishes, at least the pre-scrape, being cute, acting regal. Then there are things dogs are not good at…Helping put up the Christmas tree, putting hangers on ornaments, tying bows, hanging stockings. When it comes to the day after Thanksgiving Shay is no help whatsoever since Christmas throws up around here. It takes more than one day. She hasn’t helped so far. She mostly stays out of the room I am working in since she gets no cuddles.

But the second a crystal ornament, carried home from Prague five years ago, jumps off the tree and shatters into ten thousand pieces she is right there to inspect, even when commanded, “Do Not Come Up here!”

Thankfully her other Mother Carter and father Russ jumped into action and got the broom and shop vac to clean up the disaster because it could be terrible for Shay if she stepped on those shards.

The tree is still not complete, but I hit a wall at 5:30 today and the rest will have to get done tomorrow. That’s when a second deep vacuuming will take place and Shay will be allowed to come and stand beside the tree and look like she had something to do with it.
