Tomorrow is Shay’s Birthday

Tomorrow Shay will be 13 years old. I can’t believe she has only been the high princess of your house for 13 years. It feels like much longer.

I had a big birthday 13 years ago and my Dad gave me a very nice check for that birthday. I decided to spend half of it on getting Shay. Carter had been begging for a dog. Russ had determined he was not allergic to Shay’s cousin Brady Pottenger so we took a chance on getting one of the puppies in Shay’s littler.

It was a small litter of three. Shay’s breeder Butch decided who get’s which puppy. Carter and I went to visit the puppies when they were about five weeks old. Shay was a quiet girl and Carter thought she wanted a more energetic puppy. Butch chose wisely and we got the dark chocolate bundle of fluff.

She was the perfect choice for us. Carter considered Shay her dog, but Shay quickly choose Russ. It has been a great love affair.

Her coat has lightened, but her posture has remained perfect. She is more devoted to Russ than ever, but is generous enough to love all of us, even if it is not equally.

13 years as the Princess of the house is a good start. We pray for many more happy years with our sweet girl. She was the best present my father did know he was giving me.
