New Chairs, The Kentucky Derby and Liking 98% of the People I Met

Russ volunteered to go help me with taking my Mom to buy new outdoor furniture and tomato plants for her new porch. It was a successful morning getting everything she was looking for and setting it up. Now she can have three friends for lunch on her porch. Not that she is going to cook lunch, but she can have three friends for wine.

The highlight of our day was going to Michelle and Richard’s Derby Day party. Any excuse for Michelle to serve mint juleps and Richard to cook for a week. The saddest part of the party was the fact that it rained. I looked out at Michelle’s gardens and could tell they were in tip top shape, but not everyone noticed.

We talked to many interesting people. Russ really hit it off with an Economics Professor working in AI. I thought his wife was fun. There were old friends and grown children to catch up with. Eventually we watched the race, but I had little skin in the game and lost interest.

During that period after the race, before the winner was declared, did I have to endure a person I found to be someone I might want to stab if stuck in an elevator together for more than fifteen minutes. I won’t go into why, but you just know when you meet someone who makes your skin crawl.

It doesn’t happen often. I like most people. If you are one of the two percent I don’t like, I know it quickly. You may not ever know it.
