Ruffin’ It

It was three in the afternoon. Carter, Claire and I just arrived at Lowe’s to buy some exciting soaker hoses. Russ texted Carter, “Power’s out.” We drove home and saw fire engines on Hope Valley rd. near Hathaway. There was smoke and trees down. We thought that was the culprit. As we drove down Dover rd. We saw two trouble trucks turning on to Eton? Was that the trouble. Duke power reported a car had hit a pole. They said the power would be back on at 8pm. A few hours later they revised it to 8 AM TOMORROW.
Carter and Claire had planned on cooking us dinner as an early birthday celebration. Thankfully our gas stove was all they needed. So they made a delicious dinner, eaten by fake candle light. (Thank goodness I bought a couple of these cordless lamps last year.)
After dinner they surprised me with a gorgeous basket of succulents and a good game of mah Jongg by candlelight. Russ boiled water in the kettle to wash the dishes.

Now I am being lulled to sleep by the sounds of neighbor’s generators. We are going to have to break down and get one, I just can’t find a good place to install it so it won’t be droning in our bedrooms.

At least we had lots of old fashioned fun without electricity. Some of our emergency lanterns have given up so it’s time to buy more of these cordless lamps. I just have to remember to recharge them before I put them away.
Hope you have power.
