Don’t Be A Good Actress

As I was vacuuming the last of the glitter and sparkles from the front hall way I noticed two giant boxes on the front porch. I inquired of Russ if he was putting the recycling on the front porch.

He said, “No, those are for you.”

He carried in these boxes and I looked at the shipping label. They were from a company I recognized because someone else I knew got something for Christmas from the same place. I opened each box and they were a match of a gift someone else got.

Russ and Carter thought that I Iiked those gifts, so they ordered me some of the same, thankfully on sale. I did not want those gifts. I was just being polite making the giver feel good about them. The receiver liked them and I should not have said anything, especially if it gave others the idea I would also like them.

It was a sweet, albeit unwanted surprise, done with the best intentions and love. When I say I don’t want more stuff, I actually mean it. If there is specific stuff I want I will probably mention it or buy it for myself. I feel ungrateful, but I have learned not to react to other’s gifts, unless I really, really want the same thing. Now I have made Russ feel bad because I was acting polite.
