Back to Cooking

I had the day totally off so I went ahead and made the soup for my garden club friends who paid too much for it. It has been so long since I have done any kind of production cooking, but it is like riding a bike.

I offered two quarts as my garden club item to one person, then I doubled it. So I really only had to make four quarts. A third person met the original bids and wanted two quarts. No problem, until she said she wanted a different soup. I had already bought everything to make a big pot of soup that would be between 14-16 quarts. So I gave the original bidders a little extra.

Russ and I had it for dinner. I packaged up the rest. I will serve some at a luncheon. Carter can have some when she gets home.

I will do some more production cooking tomorrow to make the second flavor. I just won’t make my biggest pot. I have no need for 16 more quarts. It did feel productive to make good soup. I just don’t want to fill the freezer and then not eat it out of the freezer.

I guess this is what happens when I take the rest of the year off from teaching. Maybe I should do something like clean out a closet. It would be getting rid of something rather than creating.
