A Little Brown Puppy Goes to Maine and Looks at Schooners

I may be a labradoodle, but I am not much of a swimmer. When I was a tiny puppy Carter would take me in the pool at her grandparents farm. I would shiver and clutch to her shoulders. I shivered, despite it being ninety degrees out. I was not able to keep my head above water all on my own. I never learned to doggie paddle.

When I was a little older I learned to go on my friends Lane and Jon’s boats. Their puppies seemed to like it. I would get to wear a life jacket, but still never felt very safe and would shiver in my Daddy’s lap.

So it seems quite unusual for me to be interested in schooners. Today my Mommy and Daddy took me down to the docks where the big schooners come in, but all the big boats were out at sea. There were two smaller boats docked and I thought I looked quite cute standing in front of them. That is probably all I would ever do. I don’t want to go for a trip on those boats.

I don’t want to wear a life jacket and if I were to fall overboard you know I would not be able to swim, even with a floatation device on.

So for now I’ll just look cute and nautical. Not actually be nautical. I would not mind coming back to see the bigger ships when they come in because the people who work on those boats are nice to puppies as most people in Maine are. Please don’t tell any of them that I can’t swim and don’t like to go on boats. They can just think I look cute next to boats. That is enough.
