Farewell Coral Bay, For a While

Today was my last class of the season at the Coral Bay Club. As the club is being torn down to be rebuilt I will not be teaching there next season. Thanks to the amazing Reba Huckabee I have had five great summers teaching at CBC. It would have been six, save the pandemic. I have made some of the most wonderful friends there and have enjoyed teaching so many students I met there back in their home cities.

The staff at Coral Bay has always taken excellent care of me and I am so appreciative of all they have done to grow Mah Jongg at the beach. All clubs could learn from them. I am hoping to fill those Coral Bay spots at other beach clubs next summer. I am already scheduled to be at Dunes club in June.

After my last class of beginners I had lunch with my beloved friends Kristi and Ann and my new friend Francis. I have no fear of not seeing them as they all live in the beloved Kinston. I had to sneak out of the club just as Thursday play for Mah Jongg was starting because if I didn’t I would have been there for another half hour talking to Mah Jongg players.

I had to rush to Raleigh because Mr. Carter (no relation), the upholsterer had my first needlepoint game chair finished. He kindly kept his shop open an extra ten minutes since I was late. I was so excited to get the chair home. I promised him I would be back in three months with my next needlepoint ready to cover a second chair.

There is nothing so exciting at making your own furniture and having it turn out exactly like you envisioned. I should pass out exhausted tonight, but I need to needlepoint.

You are an amazing teacher as I have always shouted. As I told someone the other day when asked if I was going to continue sending out Mahjongg information, I said only the first few years of people as the numbers have grown to around 1,000 people you have taught here. SO now it’s their responsibility to spread the word. We are in all 4 clubs here as well as Spooners Creek Clubhouse off season, where it all began. 6 years ago before we moved to Coral Bay. Pop up games are all over down here too. BTY::: There is still wait list to learn in all locations :):)
The chair bottom is fabulous. Cant wait for all to be finished.
