How to Get it to Rain
Posted: August 6, 2023 Filed under: Uncategorized Leave a commentThis summer we planted 15 flats of mondo grass in a section of the front yard that is too shady to grow grass and on a slope where the top soil would wash away. The mondo was well mulched but since they are new planting I had to make sure they are well watered for the first six months.
This last week I drove my black car to the beach and when I got home it looked like a reverse leopard full of spots. The Salt air and spitting rain we had over the four days had left a distinct and I think beautiful pattern on the car, but it had not come off on its own.
After church Russ spent a good hour positioning and repositioning the sprinkler watering the new mondo. Then he took my car to be inspected, got me new wiper blades and washed my car.
That was enough to cause it to rain hard tonight. I am not sorry. We need the rain. My grass and other gardens need the rain and it certainly does not hurt the mondo to get a deeper soaking. The car will survive. It does not have to be pristine for me to drive back to the beach.
So many times I look at the weather forecast and think, I don’t need to water because rain is coming and then it never does. I should know that if I want it to rain all we have to do is water outside and wash the car. It’s guaranteed.
